Course Description

  • Drafting & 3D Modeling is a one-term course designed to introduce students to the concepts and tools used to communicate through technical drawings. The course is structured around the three drawing techniques used in industry: sketching, formal hand drawings, and Computer Aided Drawing. While studying each drawing technique students will be exposed to the fundamental drawing types used to communicate a design which include isometric, orthographic, auxiliary view, sectional view, and developments. The course will provide the foundational knowledge used to visually communicate the design of an object using industry standards, and each student will be expected to complete multiple projects for each drawing type. The concepts, skills, and abilities developed in this course are essential for the study or careers in the fields of architecture, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, and industrial design, and the course will open the door to 3D printing and modeling.
