Course Description

  • Linear algebra is a branch of mathematics that is fundamental to many modern and applied sciences – like network theory, engineering, data science, and machine learning – however its core ideas are embedded in the standard high school curriculum. This course develops the important concepts of both theoretical and applied linear algebra through exploration, computation, and examples rooted in familiar algebraic and geometric principles. The first semester focuses on systems of equations, the geometry of linear transformations, and matrix algebra. In the second semester, linear algebraic tools such as eigenvalues, singular value decomposition, and principal component analysis are developed and applied to topics in statistics, differential equations, network theory, and data science. Students are encouraged and supported to develop independent projects aligned with their interests
